United Capital
United Capital Financial Advisers, LLC ("United Capital") is a national financial management firm headquartered in Newport Beach, California. It has 74 offices in the United States and manages $15 billion in assets. United Capital was founded by CEO Joe Duran. Private-equity firms Bessemer Venture Partners and Grail Partners LLC own approximately 40 percent of United Capital while employees and managers own the remaining. United Capital was one of the first investment companies to implement behavioral finance as a part of their financial planning services to help people understand what matters to them and how their emotions and biases affect financial decisions.〔 In 2015, United Capital re-branded its services from private wealth counseling to financial life management concept in order to be in line with their client's priorities by focusing on how the client is living rather than strictly how to invest the client's money. The Schwab IMPACT Awards recognized United Capital with the Pacesetter IMPACT Award for being an independent registered investment advisor firm with standout performance in 2015.〔

United Capital was founded in 2005 as a national network of independent advisory firms.〔 The company was initially founded, financed and developed by Duran, his business colleagues and friends. From 2005 to 2010, United Capital grew to over 150 employees and $30 million in revenue. By 2008, following several acquisitions of investment advisory firms such as Maul Capital Management, Integrated Financial Management, and Trevethan Capital Partners, United Capital was operating with 47 offices and 350 employees.〔 The company made its largest acquisition of 2014 when it acquired Ellis & Ellis, a $500 million-asset firm that was previously affiliated with Ameriprise Financial. In 2015, Ernst & Young named CEO Joe Duran Entrepreneur of the Year in Financial Services for Orange County.
